401(k) Plan

Don’t want to be broke in retirement? Then, start planning now.

With Ancestry’s 401(k) plan, administered by Empower Retirement, you can save and invest for your future using pretax funds where your contributions and any earnings are tax-deferred until you withdraw the money.

All benefit eligible employees are eligible to join the 401(k) plan on the first day of employment. New employees are automatically enrolled in the 401(k) on their eligibility date with a 6% contribution amount. But you can change your contribution at any time! Within the first few weeks after your start date, you’ll receive a letter from Empower with your account information and PIN. After the close of the first payroll period following your hire date, follow these instructions to access your account and get started.

Ancestry matches 100% of the first 3% of your base salary and annual bonus that you contribute, with no annual maximum (except for IRS limits), and vests at 25% each year.

*Contributions are deducted from your paycheck on either a pretax or after-tax basis in the form of Roth or after-tax contributions. Pretax contributions are taxed when withdrawn. Roth and after-tax contributions are not taxed when withdrawn.

**Earnings associated with pretax and after-tax contributions are taxed when withdrawn. However, Roth contributions may be removed from your account tax-free in the form of a qualified distribution. Roth contributions and earnings must be in your account for at least five years and the money withdrawn after you have reached age 59½, died, or been disabled for the associated earnings to be qualified. If Roth earnings are not qualified, the earnings are taxed as ordinary income and may be subject to early withdrawal penalties.

Vesting Schedule

The money that Ancestry contributes to your 401(k) is subject to a vesting schedule. This means that you have to stay with the company for a certain amount of time before the money that Ancestry contributes to your 401(k) becomes yours.

If you leave Ancestry before you’re fully vested, you will not be able to take all your matching funds with you.

Remember, money that you contribute to your 401(k) is 100% yours at all times. No vesting schedule applies to your 401(k) contributions.
